Day 12 of Writing

We wrapped up the structure for song #3 today, and I must say I’m surprised with how it came together. Progressive material usually takes us a considerable amount of time due to less repeating of sections. However, the process of writing this song struck me as odd. We would be in a writing slump for hours, then all of a sudden we would remember that an old riff would flow perfectly next, or one of us would play an idea, and within a couple minutes we would have decided on that part. A few sections were written in a matter of seconds, literally. Orie would come up with a riff on the fly, and we would all say, “Alright, next part.” It was as if the song overall took only a few hours to write, but we spent 4 days getting there. Next step, lyrics.

This song has been code named “Third Lung” after my breathing troubles. We’ll see if it holds up.
