It’s currently 5:30 am and we finally have the new desk built with all our equipment set up, and I couldn’t be happier with my new mixing home. It’s clean, comfortable and functional. Aside from missing a mini-fridge, the space has everything I desire, and feels like it will be easy to stay focused, that is if I don’t get distracted by the lovely lights along the wall. They change colors you know.
In prepping the studio, there has been quite a bit of cleaning with a hint of remodeling, but it’s been totally worth it. I will say that one of the few things I dislike is the ceiling. It has those white ceiling tiles, but these must have been the discounted discount tiles. They pretty much crumble in your hand. This made it quite the challenge to run cables from room to room, but we just gritted our teeth and got it done.
With all of the time spent in getting the house ready, our anticipation for this record has only continued to grow. Our new home has fantastic wood floors for stomps and perfect reverb for claps, so we’ll see how that influences the album.
Tomorrow / later today we are heading out to pick me up my first real drum stool in 4 years. Up until now I have been using an old steel stool with a mickey mouse mouse pad (shown in picture above) for comfort. It’s been good to me, but it’s time to move on. My tooshy will thank me when this album is finished.
